HSBC has recently launched a new Everyday Global Account, and it’s causing quite a stir.
Why the excitement? It’s the first Australian transactional account to also allow customers to bank in multiple currencies while offering no overseas charges or ATM withdrawal fees. Better still, it comes with $0 account keeping fees and no pesky minimum monthly deposits or transactions to worry about.
Whether you’re at home shopping online or travelling abroad, HSBC’s new Everyday Global Account can help you bank smarter. You’ll get access to an Australian transaction account for everyday use, a multi-currency Visa debit card you can use when travelling overseas, plus the ability to undertake free ATM cash withdrawals in Australia and overseas.
One flexible account to use at home and away
At home, enjoy the flexibility of a simple Australian transactional account that can be used to deposit your salary, pay bills and purchase your morning coffee. Access unlimited free transactions from HSBC ATMs, EFTPOS, phone, internet, [email protected]t, BPAY and direct debits.
When wanderlust kicks in, head overseas, knowing your own cash and everyday bank account are coming with you. You’ll have no need for travel cards with left over cash on them, no surprise overseas transaction fees and no carrying large amounts of cash when you’re on the go.
And if you’re after a spot of global retail therapy, enjoy shopping online with no overseas transaction fees. Guilt free? Nearly!
No matter where you are, you can use your Visa Debit Card anywhere that Visa is accepted and enjoy compatibility with Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Buy, save, and spend in up to 10 currencies from one single account
The standout feature of the HSBC Everyday Global Account is the ability to bank in no less than 10 different currencies. Simply lock in your currency and shop like a local. There are no fees for international transactions or currency conversions.
In addition to the Australian dollar, you can choose from nine currencies which are popular with Australian travellers. These include US dollars (USD), British pounds (GBP), Euros (EUR), Japanese yen (JPY), Chinese yuan (CNY, currency restrictions apply), Canadian dollars (CAD), Singapore dollars (SGD), Hong Kong dollars (HKD) and New Zealand dollars (NZD):
It’s worth noting that HSBC’s FX rates are also very competitive when compared with other available products – we’ve found them consistently higher than other travel card providers like Qantas Cash and Virgin Global Wallet, as well as major banks.
If you choose not to make a currency conversion before you travel, or if using a currency not in the list above, funds will be automatically converted from your Aussie dollar balance when you make a transaction (exchanged into the local currency at the current Visa exchange rates if it is a currency outside the 10 offered in the account).
Access fee-free ATM cash withdrawals
Whether at home or abroad, you’ll enjoy fee free local and overseas ATM withdrawals at HSBC and non-HSBC ATMs. Note that some ATM providers and merchants may charge a separate fee. And if you’re a big spender, it’s important to bear in mind that there is a $1,000 daily ATM withdrawal limit as well as a $10,000 limit for purchases.
Enjoy peace of mind when you travel
When you use your Visa Debit card, you’ll benefit from the fraud protection measures of Visa Zero Liability protection, both at home and abroad.
Delving into the currency conversion process
Holding different currencies means you have the flexibility to exchange currencies ahead of time to lock in favourable exchange rates which can also make it easier to manage your travel budget.
With your Everyday Global Account, currency conversions take place online via HSBC’s real-time FX rates. This means that customers aren’t held to the one daily rate as you can refresh the real time currency exchange quotes as many times as you want before accepting a rate.
It’s important to note that real time currency exchange rates are available only between 8am Monday and 11.59pm Friday Australian Eastern Standard Time (excluding public, currency and US holidays). While you can still use your card for transactions outside these hours, if you do so and you don’t have sufficient funds in the supported currency, the funds will be automatically converted from your AUD at the current HSBC board rates.^
Why choose the HSBC Everyday Global Account over other products in the market?
The HSBC Everyday Global Account delivers banking, minus the baggage. Account holders benefit from the functionality of a pre-paid multi currency travel card as well as an everyday transaction account with unlimited fee free local and overseas ATM withdrawals and transactions.
You’ll enjoy no account keeping fees, no minimum balance requirement and you’ll benefit from the fraud protection measures of Visa Zero Liability protection. You’ll also have access to exchange currencies online at competitive real time rates.^
