Qantas Shopping vs Qantas Frequent Flyer store
Qantas Shopping operates separately from the Qantas Frequent Flyer store, also known as the Rewards Store.
The Rewards Store is where you can redeem Qantas Points for goods from over 500 brands. However, unlike with Qantas Shopping, you must complete your purchase directly from the Qantas Frequent Flyer store website and spend at least 2,000 Qantas Points on each product.
While redeeming Qantas Points for products doesn’t usually offer a compelling value proposition, a points plus pay option allows for frequent flyers to pay with the minimum 2,000 Qantas Points and cover the rest with cash.
Example: Take the Dyson V8 Origin vacuum. Generally, we’d value Qantas Points at 1 cent or above. The vacuum is available for 104,170 Qantas Points on the Rewards Store, meaning the effective purchase price is at least $1,041. Since the same product can be purchased on MyDeal.com.au for $595, the value on offer here is questionable.
For context, 100,000 Qantas Points could easily get up to 18 Business Class upgrades on short domestic flights! Oftentimes frequent flyers can upgrade their Qantas Flight from Economy to Business for 5,400 Qantas Points.
Cashback website considerations
