Qantas launches new Melbourne-Jakarta service – More reward seats

Victorian travellers now have access to more Qantas reward seats.

Qantas Frequent Flyers can now access more reward seats, following the national carrier’s announcement of its latest Melbourne to Jakarta service.

The new direct flights are set to offer Qantas customers almost 300,000 seats between Australia and Jakarta each year, with ten flights making the trip each week.

The route is expected to be popular amongst those connecting to and from other major Indonesian cities like Surabaya and Medan, which also attract waves of Australian-based travellers.

Qantas Domestic and International CEO Andrew David said the new route would support growing links between Australia and Indonesia.

“Jakarta is becoming an increasingly important destination for our corporate travellers. These direct flights offer more choice and make it even easier for them to do business with one of Australia’s closest neighbours,” Mr David said.

 The flight

The year-round flights will jet off three days per week, with a Qantas Airbus A330 making the trip.

Flight QF39 takes off from Melbourne at 3:10pm each Sunday, Wednesday and Friday before arriving in Jakarta at 7:15pm local time.

Then, on the return leg QF40 will see wheels up at 9pm, before touching down in Melbourne at 6:40am the next day.

The seven-hour overnight flight is a good opportunity to make the most of the A330’s lie-flat business class, which offer the chance to tuck in for a movie marathon or get a full night’s sleep in a comfortable 1-2-1 layout.

Summing up

The new service is the fourth international route to be added to the Qantas map out of Melbourne since borders reopened and follows the launch of flights to Delhi and Dallas Fort Worth.

Qantas also resumed flights from Melbourne to Tokyo last month, now touching down in Haneda Airport and saving passengers nearly two hours travel to and from Narita Airport.

Those jetting off on these Qantas flights will be able to enjoy a new refreshed international menu, which features seasonal dishes including grilled snapper.
