Score a VIP Rolex Sydney Hobart superyacht experience for just 25,000 points

When it comes to redeeming points, there’s often a compelling case for prioritising ‘experiences’ over flights.

Case in point: The ‘Moments’ initiative operated by Marriott Bonvoy, a leading hotel loyalty program that is a direct transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards.

This program offers a range of ‘money can’t buy’ experiences throughout the year. And while popular experiences can command hefty prices, there are gems to be found if you look closely enough.

As an example, right now, members can lock in a VIP Sydney Rolex superyacht experience from a tiny 25,000 points for two people:

Members who redeem this experience will step aboard superyacht CHAOS and hear the starting cannon of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2022. It’s billed as a chance to witness the excitement up-close as Australia’s greatest yachtsmen start their journey from Sydney Harbour to Hobart, Tasmania.

What’s included

Each redemption includes the following experience for two people:

  • Four-hour tour of Sydney Harbour aboard luxury superyacht CHAOS for the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2022 on 26 December
  • Complimentary premium Tasmanian food and beverage lunch experience, prepared by Massimo Mele, culinary director of Peppina

Earning Marriott Bonvoy points in Australia

It’s surprisingly easy for Australian-based travellers to grow a Marriott Bonvoy points balance.

While you can earn Bonvoy points via stays with participating properties, American Express offers a straightforward way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points in Australia.

Amex Membership Rewards members can transfer a minimum 600 points in increments of 300 at a 3:2 conversion rate, meaning 37,500 Amex MR points are needed to unlock the 25,000 Bonvoy points required for this redemption.

Simply log into your American Express account, select ‘rewards’ from the top banner and then navigate to ‘use points for travel’ before searching ‘Marriot Bonvoy’.

Is this redemption worth it?

As a rough ballpark, looking at the inclusions, I’d value this ‘money can’t buy’ experience at around $500 per person (or $1,000 for two). In my opinion, that’s a solid way to redeem 25,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (or 37,000 Amex MR points).

At the time of writing, there are only two redemptions left. So, move quickly to secure your superyacht experience on Boxing Day. Head to the Marriott Bonvoy Moments website here to learn more.
