Qantas has announced new status support measures for Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers with a status expiry date of July, August or September 2023.
This new initiative will make it easier for selected elite Qantas Frequent Flyer members to continue to enjoy the significant spoils of top-tier status.
Digging into the new status support measures
Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers with status expiring between July and September 2023 will see the number of status credits needed to retain a membership level reduced by 20%.
Here’s how it will work:
- Platinum One members whose status expires in July, August or September 2023 will only need to earn 2,880 Status Credits (down from 3,600) with 2,160 (normally 2,700) of them acquired from flying on Qantas marketed flights on or before their membership year date
- Platinum members whose status expires in July, August or September 2023 will only need to earn 960 Status Credits (down from 1,200) with at least four eligible Qantas group flights taken on or before their membership year date
Eligible members who earn enough status credits to meet the reduced qualification threshold won’t need to take any action. Qantas says that extensions will be processed automatically and members will be notified via email.
The rationale for further Platinum status support
The temporary reduction is in recognition of Qantas and partner flight networks still being in recovery, making it hard for Platinum frequent flyers to achieve the significant target of their tier.
After all, since Platinum and Platinum One members have very high Status Credit targets to meet, they are most impacted by reduced networks within their membership year.
Is further support being extended to Gold and Silver members?
No, Gold and Silver Frequent Flyers, as well as Platinum One and Platinum Frequent Flyers whose status expires from October 2023 onwards, will need to earn the usual number of Status Credits required to retain their membership level.
