Qantas flights from Australia direct to Rome take off

Qantas has launched another new international route from Australia, with direct seasonal flights from Perth to Rome taking off in time for the European summer as Australians reignite their passion for globetrotting after two years of travel restrictions.

It follows the announcement yesterday that Qantas will also launch two new international routes, from Perth to Johannesburg from 1 November and Perth to Jakarta from 30 November this year.

Qantas’ new non-stop flight from Australia to Italy is the only direct flight between Australia and continental Europe offered by any airline.

It follows the popularity of the airline’s Perth to London flight which launched in 2018 and quickly became one of the most in-demand routes on the Qantas global network.

A recent study commissioned by Qantas confirms that traveller preference for point-to-point travel is higher than ever post-COVID.  Appeal for direct flights from Australia to London has increased from 45% to 59%.

Qantas Group Chief Executive Officer, Alan Joyce said Australian’s are once again embracing the opportunity to travel and direct flights are the way of the future.

Qantas will operate three flights a week from Sydney to Rome (via Perth) as the only non-stop flight between Australia and Continental Europe. Qantas passengers are also able to take advantage of a “circle fare” allowing them to fly into Rome and return to Australia from London on the one Qantas ticket.

The direct flight to Rome will also serve as a jump off point to several other European destinations including Athens Madrid, Milan and Nice with Qantas’ partner airlines.

To celebrate the launch of the new Rome route, Qantas has introduced a number of new Italian-inspired menu items and Negroni cocktails across its lounges and inflight.

It has also added a special one-off collection of iconic Italian films to its Inflight Entertainment offering across all international flights featuring classics such as Scent Of A Woman, Rome, Open City and Life is Beautiful for additional Italian travel inspiration.
