KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes deals: Australia & NZ – for travel in January 2025
This month there are Spontaneous Escapes across 3 classes. To enjoy the promotion, redeem your flights on Singaporeair.com or the Singapore Airlines mobile app from now till 31 December 2024, for travel from 1 to 31 January 2025, both dates inclusive.
As always, note that the discounted flight routes highlighted are one way only – there are not always discounted reward seats from Singapore back to Australia or vice versa, so you may benefit from using Singapore as a springboard to another destination.

When do I have to redeem my flight by?
Spontaneous Escapes flights are booked the end of month and must be flown in the following month. The whole point is ‘spontaneity’.
In order to lock in your discounted seat, using a previous month example:
- Book by: 30 June 2024
- Travel between: 1 July 2024 and 31 July 2024 (blackout periods may apply)
- Make sure: You can fly as you won’t be able to cancel. If you’re booking more than one flight, it’s also important to note the entire booking needs to be within the travel dates.

Digging into the detail: KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes
Released on or around the 15th day of each month, Spontaneous Escapes is a popular and much-loved promotion that has been keenly missed by Australian-based KrisFlyer loyalists, as the past few rounds of offers have largely excluded Australian routes.
Spontaneous Escapes allows KrisFlyer members the opportunity to acquire Business, Premium Economy and Economy seats at a significant points discount. But you’ll need to hurry – fares are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The promotion typically offers a discount of 30% off Saver award tickets. Depending on the month, it’s possible to see up to 50 destinations across the Singapore Airlines Network featured for the promotion.
How can I redeem a KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes flight?
- Log in to your KrisFlyer account
- Select ‘Book a Flight’ on your dashboard
- Click ‘Redeem flights’ and select your route.
Note that the redemption discount will only be reflected in the booking summary panel after you have selected the flights.
When are KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes fares released?
Typically Singapore Airlines releases KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes fares around the middle of the month. You’ll then have until the end of that month to book and redeem your KrisFlyer miles for your selected route, with most flights then available to redeem during the following month.
What seats are available in Spontaneous Escapes?
KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes can be a great way to save if you’re flexible with your travel dates and your class of travel.
Usually, Business, Premium Economy and Economy Saver seats are offered at discounted rates, usually at 30% off, though occasionally we have seen Singapore Airlines slash the cost of award seats by up to 50% off!
While the promotion has been run throughout the previous year, sadly, we’ve not once spotted first class award redemptions, so it’s unlikely that we’ll see any of these in the future.
Converting Velocity Points to KrisFlyer miles
Transferring Velocity Points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer opens up a range of added travel options on Singapore Airlines, including the ability to snap up a Spontaneous Escapes deal.
While the ability to convert Velocity Points to KrisFlyer miles will be a compelling option for many, it won’t necessarily make sense for everyone. If you’re considering sending across a swag of Velocity Points to KrisFlyer, there are a number of factors to weigh up.
Firstly, the cost of locking in Singapore Airlines reward seats direct with KrisFlyer can work out much cheaper than sending points across from Virgin Australia. However, the plus side here is that Velocity Points are much easier to earn in Australia.
How to transfer Velocity Points to KrisFlyer
To transfer Velocity Points to KrisFlyer, follow the steps below:
- Log in to your KrisFlyer account.
- Select PPS Club/KrisFlyer from the top navigation, and then “Other ways to redeem miles”. Once loaded, find and select “Velocity” from the bottom of the page, and then “Convert your KrisFlyer miles to Velocity Points”.
- To Link your accounts, on the pop-up, under “To convert, link your favourite partner programmes now”, select “Proceed”.
- Under Add Partner, select “Select Airline Partner” and “Virgin Australia- Velocity” and add your Velocity membership number. Once complete, select “Add and Link”.
- Select “Airline Partner” and “Virgin Australia – Velocity”.
- Enter the number of miles you wish to convert and then select “Proceed” to confirm and complete your transaction.
- You will now be able to log in to your Velocity account and see your transferred Points
KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes restrictions
While the promotion can represent excellent value, note that tickets cannot be changed or cancelled – a risk that many will be happy to take for heavily discounted rates for imminent travel.
There are also blackout periods in peak demand times that may further restrict options.
Flights are also available on a first come first served basis, so your membership level with KrisFlyer is irrelevant in this case.
A history of Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes deals
Singapore Airlines relaunched its popular KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion in March 2019 with a range of discounted award flights (some at 50%) off.
Discounts were available for flights originating in multiple Australian cities, creating excitement amongst travellers who held a stash of KrisFlyer miles.
Since the initial launch, however, the promotion has been somewhat less generous, especially since its return following a Covid hiatus. Some months bring compelling offers, whilst others are rather limited.
However, the selection can be attractive if you have flexibility. Additionally, there can be even greater value to be had by positioning to Singapore before journeying outwards to Asia, the USA or Europe, so it pays to think outside the box.
Where can I sign up to receive the offers?
You can keep up to date with KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes offers by choosing to register as a customer. You can do this online within your KrisFlyer account. Not yet a member? Join Krisflyer for free.
