Earn 1,000 bonus Points with new Virgin Australia partnership

Virgin Australia customers and Velocity Frequent Flyer members can now enjoy hotel and car rental deals directly through Virgin Australia thanks to its new partnership with Rocket Travel.

The partnership grants customers easy access to more travel options – including over 400,000 hotel room deals worldwide, as well as a plethora of car rental options – all directly from Virgin Australia’s website.

A leader in online travel, Rocket Travel is owned by the same company as Booking.com and Agoda and partners with global brands to help customers access travel deals and maximise rewards.

For a limited time, Velocity Frequent Flyer members can access 1,000 bonus Points, as well as earn triple Points through a celebratory launch offer.

How do I get the bonus Points?

Velocity Frequent Flyer members who make an eligible hotel booking by 13 September 2022 will earn triple Points (that’s 9 Points per $1 spent). This could see Velocity members earn a whopping 3,600 Points for an eligible $400 hotel booking.

There’s a further 1,000 bonus Points on offer for members who make an eligible car rental booking by 30 September.

Note that both offers are valid for travel until 28 February 2023. An eligible booking must be made during the offer period and cannot be paid for with Velocity Points.

Visit Virgin Australia’s website for more information and the offer’s full terms and conditions.

What other Points are on offer?

Virgin Australia customers and Velocity Frequent Flyer members simply need to select the ‘Hotels and Car Hire’ tab on the airline’s respective websites and apps to make a booking on the Rocket Travel platform.

The launch of Virgin Australia’s new booking platform could see Velocity Frequent Flyers enjoy the following Velocity Points:

  • Hotel bookings can earn 3 Points per $1 spent
  • Eligible car rental bookings can earn between 2 and 4 Points per $1 spent. There are up to 6 Points per $1 spent on offer for tiered Velocity members (Beyond, Platinum, Gold and Silver).

This means tiered Velocity Frequent Flyers can earn up to 1,200 Velocity Points on a $200 car rental booking.

Virgin Australia’s partnership with Rocket Travel also allows Velocity members to redeem a minimum of 2,000 Points, with a Points plus pay option opening the door to more booking options.

What benefits can I access?

Virgin Australia’s new accommodation booking platform with Rocket Travel follows on from Qantas’ recent purchase of TripADeal. Similar to Qantas Hotels, the platform unlocks the potential for Velocity Points earn on accommodation bookings.

As a result, Velocity members can now also access an array of compelling hotel and car hire perks.

Hotel benefits for eligible bookings include:

  • free cancellation
  • prepaid rates
  • book now, pay later
  • pay on arrival rates

Car rental benefits include:

  • free cancellation up to 48 hours prior to pick up (eligible rentals)
  • prepaid rates
  • Australia and New Zealand rentals with Europcar, Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar and Ace

Virgin Australia Group Chief Commercial Officer, Dave Emerson said the partnership comes at a time when it is important to ensure travel is accessible.

‘We are providing even more travel options for our 10.8 million Velocity Frequent Flyer members who now have more ways to earn and redeem Points which we know is a great benefit to many Australians who are looking for more cost-effective ways to travel amid rising inflation’, Mr Emerson said.

Heralding another customer improvement, the new partnership marks the first time Virgin Australia has offered hotel and car rental options through one partner since the country’s second-largest airline was relaunched under two years ago.
