Move over Qantas, Velocity just landed another partnership.
Virgin Australia has announced it will partner with premium travel package company, Luxury Escapes from the middle of the year.
The upcoming tie-up will allow 11 million Velocity Frequent Flyers to earn and burn points on luxury holiday offerings, including packages, hotels, cruises, tours and experiences.
Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO, Nick Rohrlach this is set to be one of the most exciting travel partnerships to launch this year, creating more choice, value and rewards for millions of Australian travellers.
“Luxury Escapes is one of the world’s fastest-growing travel companies, and Velocity members will significantly benefit from the great value, choice and rewards on offer whenever they book a Luxury Escapes holiday or experience,” said Mr Rohrlach.
Good timing
If Luxury Escapes sounds familiar in the frequent flyer sphere, that’s because the holiday company currently partners with Qantas.
Come mid-year, the Velocity partnership will signal the end of Luxury Escapes’ long-term tie-up with Qantas Frequent Flyer, which wraps up on 30 June 2023.
While Luxury Escapes appears to be jumping ship (or aircraft), Qantas Frequent Flyer members still have the ability to earn and redeem points on travel via Trip-A-Deal and Qantas Luxury Tours.
How many points will I earn?
Velocity is yet to reveal rates, but we can assume members will be better off utilising the new partnership to earn rather than redeem points, as holiday package redemptions tend to offer poor value compared to award seats.
For reference, the current Qantas and Luxury Escapes partnership offers 1 Qantas Points per dollar spent on most packages, so we can assume the Velocity earn rate will be similar, if not the same.

Velocity appears to be moving from strength to strength with its growing list of partnerships.
The upcoming partnership with Luxury Escapes is another win for Velocity Frequent Flyer members, who will have yet another way to earn and redeem Velocity Points on the ground.
