ANZ Frequent Flyer Black: What’s to love?
With a huge 120,000 Qantas Points on the table, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black is a top pick for Qantas lovers. And, with $275 back to your card, you’ll significantly offset the first year annual fee.
Throw in generous uncapped Qantas Points earning potential, access to Qantas Club privileges plus other travel perks, and it’s not hard to see how this card could take pride of place in your wallet for the long term.
Am I eligible to receive the 120k bonus Qantas Points?
To be eligible to receive the 120,000 bonus Qantas Points, you must not currently hold or have opened or closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer card in the past 12 months. If you currently hold or have held an ANZ Rewards card or another type of ANZ credit card in the past 12 months (such as the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card), this does not preclude you from earning the bonus points on the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black.
To apply for this card, you must be 18 years of age or over and a permanent Australian resident or a non-permanent resident with more than 9 months remaining on your Visa.
Ok, so what are 120,000 bonus Qantas Points actually worth?
I personally use my Qantas Points for business and first class flights, and my goal is to extract at least 5 cents value or more from each Qantas Point. That being said, everyone’s redemption goals are different, so the perceived value of Qantas Points differs from person to person.
The fact is, even at a conservative ballpark valuation of 1 cent per point (as published by Choice earlier this year) 120,000 Qantas Points is worth the equivalent of $1,200 AUD. When you consider that you’ll get $275 back to your card in the first year (significantly offsetting the annual fee), with many other perks on offer, that’s an incredible value proposition.
In real terms, 120,000 Qantas Points is enough to jet off almost anywhere in the world in economy return with Qantas or a partner airline. It’s also enough to book a return Qantas business class classic reward flight to selected destinations. Here are some of our favourite redemption options you could seek to lock in around 120,000 Qantas Points (with applicable taxes/fees extra):
- One way business class to the USA: Fly Qantas business class one way from Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane to Los Angeles or San Francisco for 108,400 Qantas Points
- Return premium economy to Tokyo: Fly return Qantas premium economy from Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane to Tokyo for 123,000 Qantas Points
- Return economy class to the USA or Europe: Fly return Qantas economy from Melbourne or Sydney to London for 110,400 Qantas Points
- Return Emirates first class to Christchurch: Fly return from Sydney to Christchurch in the fabulous Emirates A380 first class suite for 124,400 Qantas Points (You can also tag on a connecting Qantas business class flight from Adelaide, Melbourne or Hobart at no extra points cost)
- 15 Zone One economy flights: Fly up to 15 times between Zone One cities (i.e. Melbourne – Sydney or Adelaide – Melbourne). You’ll pay 8,000 Qantas Points each way
Carrier fees and charges are payable in addition to points redeemed. Qantas Points redemption is subject to airline T&Cs and availability.
Receive two Qantas Club lounge entries
If you’d like to relax in comfort before your next flight, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black won’t disappoint. Each year you hold the card, you’ll receive two complimentary Qantas Club lounge entries. The invites are valid at domestic Qantas Club lounges and International Business Lounges (note that the Qantas Los Angeles Lounge is currently excluded).
Save up to $497 on Qantas Club membership
If you travel frequently and are looking to lock in more regular Qantas Club lounge access, the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black could save you a significant amount of money on an annual membership.
Cardholders can access a reduced Qantas Club annual fee on of $442 (usually $540) along with a waiver of the one-off $399 joining fee. Together, these savings add up $497.
Earn 1 Qantas point per $1 eligible spend (capped)
