WiFi connectivity is the talk of the sky, and Singapore Airlines has just gone a step above the rest.
After a successful trial, Singapore Airlines has rolled out unlimited complimentary WiFi for all passengers from 1 July.
The airline has confirmed the servce has now been extended to all cabin classes, meaning even economy passengers can surf the internet completely uncapped.
This is a big win for Singapore Airlines passengers, who, prior to the business and first class trial, had to pay between $4 USD and $16 USD for various WiFi packages after using the free 100Mb teaser package.
Previously, the most expensive package lasted just three hours, meaning passengers were paying upwards of $60 USD to be connected for the duration of their flight.
Mr Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Singapore Airlines, said WiFi is one of the most important requirements for customers.
The details
Customers across all cabin classes can now stay connected with loved ones, work online, or keep up to date with the latest news or their social media feeds.
Passengers flying in economy and premium economy class got a taste of the complimentary WiFi connection during the business class trial, providing they entered their KrisFlyer number at the time of booking.
Premium economy passengers had access to a free three-hour ‘surf’ package, while economy customers got a two-hour ‘chat’ package, which limited connection to messaging apps.
How to connect
To access free connection, customers must enter their KrisFlyer membership details at the point of booking through the Manage Booking online option, or at check-in.
Non-KrisFlyer members may also sign up for their free membership online or on board their flight via the SIA digital content portal on their personal mobile devices to enjoy the complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi (it’s free to sign up).
However, if you prefer not to sign up, it’s also possible to pay to stay connected, with one hour online costing US$3.99 (about AUD$6). Three-hour blocks sells for US$8.99 (about AUD$14), while US$15.99 (about AUD$25) will keep you connected for the whole flight.
Which aircraft will have free WiFi?
The newly announced free WiFi plans have been rolled out across the entire Singapore Airlines fleet (with the exception of Singapore’s seven Boeing 787-800 aircraft, which doesn’t have WiFi capability), so you can pretty much bet you’ll have access onboard your next Singapore Airlines flight.
The WiFi speed averages 5Mbps, which will see you opening emails and scrolling with ease – especially when you don’t have to worry about keeping an eye on the clock!
Summary
All passengers on Singapore Airlines now have the first class privilege of unlimited free WiFi, meaning you can say goodbye to watching the data cap during your next flight redemption on Singapore Airlines.
Meanwhile in Australia, we’ve just seen Qantas to roll out international WiFi on select flights, with coverage limited to flight time over the Australian mainland.
While air time can be a good opportunity to switch off, the option to remain connected will undoubtedly be more practical for many business and leisure travellers alike.
Will you look forward to using free unlimited WiFi when you fly Singapore Airlines?
