Velocity Frequent Flyer teams up with Myer in new partnership

Velocity Frequent Flyer and Myer: The match that may have arrived just in time to make your Christmas shopping easier.

From today, Velocity Frequent Flyer is launching an exclusive new retail partnership with Myer.

The new team-up will allow Velocity’s more than 10.9 million members to shop over 200,000 products – including leading Australian and international brands – online at myer.com.au

The move adds to Velocity Frequent Flyer’s partnerships with Qatar Airways, United Airlines, 7-Eleven and Medibank, all of which it has teamed up with in the past 18 months.

Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Nick Rohrlach commented that Velocity’s latest partnership will further help its members maximise savings. “As Australians face rising inflation, we know that value is more important than ever and our members will easily find impactful ways to use their Points online at Myer to stretch their dollar further,” Mr Rohrlach said.

How many points will I need?

We’ve conducted some calculations to work out the Myer redemption value, which comes in at around 0.5 cents per point. While this doesn’t exactly offer a compelling value proposition, the option to use Velocity Points to shop online at Myer comes as Australians are preparing to tackle their Christmas shopping.

Should Velocity frequent flyers choose to use points at Myer, there are thousands of products across a wide range of shopping categories shop from.

The table below outlines the Velocity Points that frequent flyers will need to redeem for a selection of goods at Myer.

Cost in Velocity Points Redemption
12,621Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup SPF10 Foundation
23,000 Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Black Canvas High Top Sneaker
37,670 DIOR Sauvage Eau De Parfum 100ml
63,689 Bose QuietComfort Earbuds Triple Black

How do I redeem Velocity Points at Myer?

  1. Add items to your bag online at myer.com.au

Member of Velocity Frequent Flyer and MYER one?

The new partnership offers Velocity frequent flyers and MYER one members the opportunity to ‘double dip’ on rewards points.

After logging in with a Velocity number and password and completing the order, MYER one members will also earn MYER one credits for the total transaction.

What to know

There are, however, some limitations to be aware of. Namely that the new partnership purely extends to Myer’s online shopping portal. This means it does not allow Velocity members to redeem points at Myer in-store or for orders over the phone.

It is worth noting that Velocity members:

  • cannot redeem Velocity Points for Myer Gift Cards, Coles Group and Myer Gift Cards
  • nor can they use points to make payments towards a Myer Credit Card
  • must redeem a minimum of 3,000 Velocity Points per online order
  • will still need to pay standard shipping rates (spend $99 to receive free shipping)
  • won’t receive points back to a Velocity account after returning goods to Myer

A summary of the Velocity x Myer partnership

Velocity’s new partnership with Myer offers its members thousands more redemption options. In what is a time of significant post COVID growth, Velocity aims to be the reward program people seek.

Though it doesn’t exactly provide a good value proposition (especially in comparison to outright flight redemptions), the new partnership certainly provides myriad ways for Velocity frequent flyers to redeem points on the ground, which could, of course, prove compelling as we approach the holiday season.
