Virgin Australia unfreezes Velocity flight redemptions

Do you still hold a stash of Velocity Points? In welcome news, Virgin Australia has re-opened Velocity Points flight redemptions for selected travel destinations from 1 September 2020. The move follows a blanket four-week freeze on Velocity Points redemptions.

Where you can book

The Reward Seat and Any Seat award bookings are available to a range of domestic destinations, flying Virgin Australia. You can view the full list of redemption destinations on the Virgin Australia website here.

In order to reassure travellers during these times of uncertainty, Virgin is offering several safeguards:

A waiver on change and cancellation fees: If you book a redemption seat between 15 May 2020 and 1 September 2020 for travel after 1 September, Virgin Australia will waive fees for any changes or cancellations you make before 1 September. For domestic itineraries, Velocity usually charges a cancellation fee of 4,500 Velocity Points or $35 per passenger per booking.

Refund guarantee: If you or Virgin Australia cancel your flight before 1 September 2020, for a booking made between 15 May 2020 & 1 September 2020, you’ll be refunded Points/cash in full to the original form of payment (except for any booking or credit card fees).

No flight redemptions are available through partner airlines. All other Velocity Points redemptions, including goods and gift cards, remain frozen for the time being.
